The Headstones

Headstones concert reviews------Buffalo, NY & Niagara Falls, NY 1997

From the moment the gang steps up on stage, to the moment they leap off, you see the intensity in Tim, Hugh's, Trent's and Dale's (when you can see his face.) moment. They hit hard, they hit loud, but best off all, they hit consitently. But they're also dedicated rock teasers, they always leave you wanting more...

Tim comes on stage in shorts, boots, and sadly sometimes, his t-shirt. When he's not making contact with the gang, he's slammin on that guitar! He's very physical on stage, bass players get to play! I am always in the middle or right side of the pit, looking towards the stage, so I don't know his stage presence up close, but I do know Trent's.

Trent's on Hugh's left...quietly and deliberately, and mysteriously jammin on his guitar. It always baffled me how someone with such a quiet stage presence can produce such a hard, persistent sound. I saw The Headstones first in Niagara Falls, NY, USA and was about ten feet from Trent, and all I remember of him on that date was that he never looked up, or moved. Me? I was getting slammed all over the place! Trent oughtta marry that damn guitar, he's so in tune with it.

Hugh is ever the performer, committed to the groove. If things are going well, Hugh hangs on to that and eats off it. If you're a jerk to him, he's a jerk right back. He searches the audience, to connect, all the time. Sometimes that connection is in the form of a mile long wad of spit. Sometimes it's a swig of your drink, or vice versa. He's there for us as long as we respond, so please people, have fun, and rock at these gigs. I'm always in the near front at shows (can't seem to wedge a way between all you boys) To get the most of Hugh's show, you need to be upclose.

Dale? Where is Dale under those bangs? All I know is that there's this "Animal from Muppetts" kinda drummer totally whacking out on the drums. And blonde hair flying everywhere. Whatever is behind that kit is one awesome drum player!

The crowd is full, young up in the front, except for me, and older the farther back you go in the place. Lot's of giggley little girls being escorted by their boyfriends attempting to wet their toes in the mosh pit, lots of die-hard fans sitting back and getting drunk or whatever, soaking up the passion and energy that is a Headstones concert. Knowing that when they leave the show, they will have had their Headstones fix, for the time being.

This band consistently delivers good, hard, honest rock-n-roll, do yourself a favor and go to a concert, you'll never be the same again, that is, if you have the right stuff to be a Headstoner.
